Come On In!

I'm so glad you could make it! I'm also glad to finally have a website where I can display images from my travels and also talk about traveling, photography, and whatever else is on my mind.

I had a little travel blog at Blogger for friends and family, while also maintaining image galleries of my travels at Picasa. But I kind of ran out of blog steam a couple of years ago and I was outgrowing Picasa's storage limits. So after some hunting around the internet, I found Smugmug and was pleased with the features, design, and freedom. So here I am.

I never intended on getting into photography but I have always loved traveling and photography has just kind of grown as a natural result of being in interesting places and then wanting to share them and remember them. That's why I still don't think of this site as simply a photography gallery, but rather, as a window into the places I've been. Thus, you'll find some of my early, Nate-still-has-a-lot-to-learn photos, alongside the more recent ones taken with much better machines and with a bit more experience. I hope I can continue to improve these windows.

Of course, it's no good keeping these photos all to myself; I want to share them and I hope that if you find a photo you like that you will feel free to share it on Facebook, Google+, or some other platform. When you click on a photo it opens in a lightbox where you will find a small menu of icons at the bottom right. One of those is the share button.

For now, all the photos are right-click-protected. I'm not going to lie, I want to try my hand at selling prints and earning some means to provide for more trips and better equipment. Thus I have to protect the images somehow and I don't like those annoying watermarks. For starters I will mainly be selling prints in Germany because that's where I live and it's easier for me to manage. But if you really want a print or want to use an image, then just send me a message and we can talk about it.

I would also love to hear from you if you have any feedback about the website or ideas on how I can improve it, or if you have any questions.

This is very exciting because I'm launching this website on the eve of another big trip. On Sunday (the 19th) I fly to Bangkok and will spend the next six weeks exploring Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand! So I might not have many big updates during that time, but I'll try to check in with a blog entry or two. Meanwhile, happy clicking!
